Robert Buckland

Biography:

Robert Buckland was born in Ontario and is a graduate of McGill University. In 1971 he co-founded and until 1976 managed James Bird, an accessories design and manufacturing firm in the United Kingdom. In Canada, in 1977, he founded and subsequently co-managed Rare Carpets, a fine arts dealership that grew to a prominent retailing position on Montreal’s Sherbrooke Street.

In 1994, Buckland was engaged as a financing consultant to Yellow Eagle Mining of Nevada, and subsequently organized financing for that company’s Cripple Creek gold mine near Fairbanks, Alaska. He consulted on project funding for Vector Mining, operators of the Dun Glen placer gold production in Nevada, and in 2008, as a partner in Compass Atlantic Consultants Inc, co-founded Kimpar Resources Inc., later Gespeg Copper Resources (GCR — TSX-V). His successor company, Compass Atlantic Inc.,  joined the British resource funding group FTC Ltd. In 2010 and in 2013 Buckland was made an associate director of that firm.

In 1996 he founded The Business of Words, an Ontario-based language and communications firm engaged for three years by Random House (Canada) to undertake writing and editing assignments.

In 2004 he founded Kingston, Ontario-based EnCompass Editions, an independent publisher and distributor of fiction and non-fiction titles.
